History of Pai Gow
Pai Gow is an ancient Chinese game played
with porcelain or ivory domino tiles. The name Pai Gow
roughly translates to “make nine”.
The Chinese have been betting on Pai
Gow for centuries – in fact, there are references
to Chinese domino tile games as far back as the Song
Dynasty, which ruled from AD 960 to AD 1279.
Nowadays Pai Gow is found mainly in
casinos with a strong Asian clientele, making it a regionally,
though not universally popular game. It’s derivative,
Pai Gow Poker, is more widespread across the USA and
increasingly in Europe.
